Does anyone know of some easy, but more obscure scholarships that I can apply for?
I am a college sophomore, not involved in greek life, and my parents are not employed by any major organizations. #college #scholarship #financial-aid #money

Hi Rebecca,
Money is a huge issue for those in college trying to focus on studying while worrying how the bills will be paid. Try thinking outside just one revenue stream. College scholarships are numerous but sometimes small amounts and have a lot of work to do up front without the promise of actually attaining them. Look into financial grants, part time work at a restaurant or somewhere with flex time but pays more, set up an internet account and ask strangers for money (https://moneypantry.com/money-from-strangers/), and ask relatives to loan/ give you money if you attain certain milestones. The best advice is be positive, be confident you will find a way and be persistent.

Hi Rebecca - one of the frustrating parts of paying for college is that the cost goes up every year, but your financial aid package from your college remains pretty much the same. Finding additional scholarships is a great way to help offset the rising cost of college. Check with your department and/or college to see if there are local organizations that offer scholarships for college students. Though the application process might not be easy, competition for these awards is likely to be fairly low. Ask your financial aid counselor for ideas. Check with the local chapters of professional organizations that have student chapters on campus. Both of my college students were able to win a couple small scholarships through alumni groups and local professional organizations. Good luck!
