I love performing, what jobs would consist of being / speaking in front of people?

I love performing, whether it's theater, speech, or just making an announcement in front of church. I know that acting isn't necessarily a steady career, so what other areas could I put this passion into?

Hi!

I majored in theater and loved performing for a very long time. Once I started working at Walt Disney World, I realized that what I really loved from Theater was talking to people and creating connections. So, I started finding a variety of roles that fed into that passion. I have been a facilitator for a few different programs here-- working with Training, orientations, etc. I also brought that love to Youth Programs, where I have taught science classes at the Magic Kingdom and been a coordinator for performance groups in the parks.

I currently work as a tour guide with Adventures by Disney showing guests a behind the scenes look at how Disney works. This way, I get to utilize my ability to talk in front of people but also get to share things I am passionate about (like Disney!). There are SO many different opportunities out there that require a skill of talking to people.

There are so many ways to use the thing you love in your job. And, if you really love acting I wouldn't count it out right away. There are a LOT of performing opportunities in theme parks around the world that could lead you to other things you are passionate about. It worked for me!

Good luck!!

Very interesting question. Once you identify the field or subject you want to speak about and identify the audience, you can learn or teach yourself to speak or make presentations. Since you mentioned theater, you could start with being a Master of ceremonies, presenter for a show, compere an event etc. Developing creative talent in these fields will further assist you in your goals. Good luck in your career!

Your love of performing can help with MANY careers. Start thinking about positions where you have to face a room full of people. Teaching is an option, but you could also go into many different types of Sales. Keep in mind that many people find it uncomfortable to get up and give presentations, so no matter what field you go into, your performance skills will be appreciated!

A customer facing role could be a really great, you may want to consider going into a technology sales role, or a consulting role as you are constantly making presentations to different audiences, public speaking, doing product demonstrations, and pitching to your audience, etc. Or motivational speaking maybe something up your ally, check out Tony Robbins, a famous motivational speaker.

This is a great skill to have, I'm glad to hear you enjoy this! Another career path to consider is Learning and Development (sometimes called Enablement or Training). This type of position is essentially a teacher for professionals. You would develop training programs and content and present them in a classroom setting for employees or clients.

Hi Ellie,

The ability to be able to present confidently is a great skill that you could use in many jobs. You might like to consider a career in sales. By 2022 over half of the global economy will be digitised so I'd recommend looking at careers in technology sales.

Good luck! Stay confident!

Have you considered stand up comedian? It's a role where you speak with people on stage. You could take an improv class locally and see if it's a good fit for you.
