Hi niyeh,

Just like most jobs, it really depends on what you do and where you do it. Do you have a sense of what you want to do in Human Resources? You should determine where you see yourself in a Human Resources work cycle - hiring, training, benefits, supporting promotions, etc. I am an Instructional designer which many times falls into HR at large corporations. Being in training in various roles (instructor, designer, videographer, graphic designer) can all be good paying jobs.

Niyeh, This varies by region of the country and type of work that you do. I am in San Antonio. Those who work for the state government in programs such as Unemployment get around $28,000 (which, honestly, is not enough for a single adult to live on). Child welfare is starting to get paid more because they have a real bad turnover problem. There are many private companies that contract to the state for things such as food stamp programs. They get paid better, about $35,000, but the demands placed upon them are great. People who specialize in working with Veterans (jobless, homeless, etc) get paid better, at least in Texas.

Positions tied to the criminal justice system, such as probation officer, corrections officer, get paid better.

Federal employees are paid better than state employees.

So, it all sort of depends on what type of work you do, where you do it, who you do it for, and how high up in the organizational chart you are.

While many people will tell you the work is very rewarding, that may be true, but you still need to be able to provide for yourself and your family, so, it is good that you are researching this!
