Susan’s Answer
I went to a college focused on art (and yes there were other academics like art history, history, writing, business) and have a BFA (bachelor of fine arts). But have known many peers, or team members that have BA's and/or a MFA's. I worked my way through college, so an MFA was not in the cards, and have had a successful creative career without it.

Depending on their industry, art directors may have several years of work experience in graphic design, photography, illustration or other fields. Some art directors pursue a master's degree in fine arts or business administration to prepare for a leadership role.
Classes you'll need to take are website design, graphic arts, commercial art, and photography. In addition, you'll need great writing and speaking skills in English and speech classes.
