Having a passion is great! But as with all passions, you have to be able to live while pursuing it. The harsh reality in this business is that you may never be able to support yourself fully by acting. It is actually relatively rare to be a full-time actor. Even if you land a paid role, it's not likely going to pay your living expenses on its own. And even if you are in Actor's Equity Association or SAG/AFTRA, their minimum contracts don't pay rent for NYC or LA. That said, you do what you HAVE to do in order to do what you WANT to do.
I've known people who move to NY/LA and start working full-time within the first year. I've known people who have struggled for 10 years before "making it." And I've also known people who will likely never be able to support themselves solely on acting.
It's a tough, tough world. But if you love it, it's also the greatest possible world. You just have to be willing to do whatever it takes while still being true to and honest with yourself!
Best of luck to you as you go off to college!!
