Rachel’s Answer

Marc,

As Sachin stated, the first step is to attend an NCARB accredited school. Here are the two schools in Oregon that are accredited.

Portland State University
Master of Architecture

University of Oregon
Bachelor of Architecture
Master of Architecture

If you're looking for the quickest route, I would advise applying to the University of Oregon since the have a bachelors degree that's accredited. If you went to Portland State University, you would have to earn your Masters in order to have an accredited architecture degree.

-Rachel

Rachel recommends the following next steps:

Apply to an accredited school (listed above)
Complete accredited program
Earn hours under registered architect while working (IDP program)
Take ARE (exams) to earn your architecture license

Sachin’s Answer

Hi Marc!

The licensing requirements for Oregon follow a more traditional approach of requiring a professional degree, completion of the Internship Development Program (IDP) and completion of the Architect Registration Exams (ARE), but also require an additional exam.

Candidates can also begin taking the ARE’s before they have completed the Internship Development Program, which helps to save some time.

How to become an Architect in Oregon:

1. Complete a professional degree (B.Arch, M.Arch, D.Arch) from a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited University.

2. Completion of Intern Development Program (IDP) as administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)

3. Successful completion of Architect Registration Exam (ARE) as administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)

4. Completion of State administered Jurisprudence Exam
