First of all: 1. You must have a degree preferable in the psychology field, and many people will go further and get a Masters degree. So with that said you must have about 4 to 6 years of college to get your degrees and Licenses. 2. There are many different Psychologists about 20 different kinds. Psychologists deal with mental, cognitive, emotional, and social in the brain to unravel mysteries. 3. Traits and characteristics of a Psychologist should have are many different traits, because each client/patient is different, and has different problems which involves delving into the problem or questions. Usually they are very warm and approachable, encouraging and invested in the patients success, and some of these traits are inborn or learned within the education which they have had. they usually have a Passion for learning, Empathy for the people they try to help, Ability to solve problem, trusting and very patient and understanding of what they are going through, Ethical about how they talk with the patient, and never cross the line of professional and therapeutic relationship, Sensitivity about the diversity of their patients such as: race, power, privilege or biases while striving to be fair, just, equitable to everyone. These are all very important to both the psychologist and the patient, and can be invaluable to both of them.
