What are the first steps to choosing an engineering degree that satisfies you?
Hey, I'm a senior at AFBHS. In the summer, I took Neuroscience and Chemistry college classes in a Summer Pre-College Program and realized that I am extremely interested in science. However, I do know that I want to become an engineer in the future. Is there a way that I can combine my new passion for these two subjects (and any other sciences) with an engineering degree? I've looked into the types of engineering degrees, and so far, I've seen Bio medical, Biochemical, etc. However, I wanted to know if there is any type of engineering that has Neuroscience intertwined with it.
Thank You for your time. #engineer #chemistry #neuroscience

Hi Delanisse! Look into computer science - the programming skills and knowledge will go a long way in your career - especially Neuroscience. Take a ton of physics and calculus along the way. The programming, math, and physics knowledge will give you a very strong foundation to stand on.

Delanisse,
Rather than basing your whole future off of one or two classes you enjoyed in highschool, I'd recommend taking the time to research all of the available disciplines of engineering that are out there. It's such a massively diverse field that there are bound to be a few that tickle your fancy, and once you've identified those you can dive into them and get an idea of what is required for each, what type of jobs each can provide, what type of work you can expect from each, etc.
This is usually a required exercise in your freshman year of college if you've enrolled in pre-engineering curriculum, at least that was the case in my education; and it really helped me delineate which path I wanted to take to achieve my goals.

Delanisse, have you thought about being a pharmacist or a biomedical engineer? Because that is what I am getting from your interests! I really urge you to research the careers of pharmacists and biomedical engineers. Designing medicine to help people seems fun and interesting.
