Garth’s Answer

Technology is always changing and trending toward computer controlled products. You would have to keep up with the technology used to control elevators because it is likely that the elevator technology you learned about at school will change over your career.

Garth recommends the following next steps:

Learn computer basics along with electrical basics.

Sidney’s Answer

Consider the physical aspects of this line of work. The controls and lift mechanism is almost always located at the top of the elevator shaft. The repair technician has to climb the stairs to perform the isolation or Lock Out function before the work can begin. Then the car needs to be located and accessed depending upon the problem.

Time management also needs to be considered. In some cases there may be passengers stuck in the elevator car when the elevator went out.

I agree with the changing technology recommendation and would add learning control logic.
