Taiowa’s Answer
You can be anything you want in life....but to be GOOD at anything you need to seize any opportunity presented to you and give 110%. Hard work rarely goes unrecognized. I would start with making connections in the industry. Even if it is at the very bottom, if you are determined and willing to work hard you will get what you want.

Shoot for the stars!
In all seriousness, NASA has several requirements to be considered for astronaut positions:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics.
- At least three years of related professional experience obtained after degree completion OR at least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time on jet aircraft.
- The ability to pass the NASA long-duration astronaut physical. Distant and near visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 for each eye. The use of glasses is acceptable.
If becoming an astronaut is something you wish to pursue, the first step would be to choose a related major to pursue, and do research into some programs.

In order to be a good astronaut, you need to be able to do these five things...
1) Be willing to try new things. Being an astronaut is all about adapting to new and exciting challenges
2) Get an Education. Most astronauts not only have a degree, but have also taken the steps to both get a masters and a doctorate in an applicable field.
3) Participate in Military Service. A majority of Astronauts career paths have included stints in the air force or other branches of the military.
4) Never Quit. Being an astronaut will take constant work and focus to achieve the level of mastery it takes to attain that level of position.
5) Be fearless. Astronauts need to set aside their fears to do their duty when placed in life threatening situations.
