In general, a Graphic Designer is in charge of the aesthetic ordering of elements that compose graphic pieces. Graphic Design, therefore, encompasses a broad variety of employment opportunities. A useful way of thinking about design, is in conjunction with other areas of knowledge, such as:
Design + Video Games = Game Designer
Design + Education = Instructional Designer
Design + Internet = Web Designer
Design + Apps = Interface Designer (UX and UI)
Design + Arts = Illustrator
Design + Clothing = Fashion Designer
Design + Architecture = Interior Designer
Design + Texts = Diagrammer
Design + Jewels = Jewelry Designer
The most important thing is to understand which areas you really identify with. This will help you to be happier at work and, consequently, to become a more successful professional.

Hi Jessica,
Graphic design has a lot of potential as well. Every major company that you see be it Apple, google etc spend a lot of money to design their products so that the users can easily use it. This is called UI/UX design ( user interface/user experience).
UI/UX spans across mobile apps, operating systems, websites etc. So you can look around and see there is a lot of potential.
Secondly, there is an option in gaming industry where you can design graphics for games and this is also a major industry.
So look around everything you interact with will have a software design for the functionality to work and a graphic design that users you interact with.
