Mechele’s Answer

Hi Edgar,

The challenges I faced was professors actually teaching the topic I enrolled in for the semester and psychology courses only being offered during a specific time of year prolonging my graduation date. Besides, those obstacles the field of study is fine but it depends on the university as well. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me!

G. Mark’s Answer

This depends largely on what your strengths are already. Or more importantly, what you've been led to believe are your strengths and weaknesses. Case in point -- many students are weak on math. Not because they have to be, but because they've been exposed to mathematics studies that are not interesting or relevant to what they're interested in using them for. Experimental Design will require you to use math. But if you realize what the math is telling you and why it's relevant to an experimental study design, AND you are interested already in psychology, you'll find it not challenging but fascinating. And it may take weeks to get to that point where you think you're slogging through drudgery and suddenly you get that "ah-ha!" moment. So math may be high on your list of "challenging".

Second, I'd say understanding various aspects of psychology because human psychology can easily be viewed as immensely complicated because of the fact that you're studying the human mind with the only tool you have, which is your human mind. Variability is challenging to understand.

So those two things appeared to me to be potential candidates for the most challenging task in understanding the human mind. And those two things make it one of the most wonderful topics to dedicate yourself to.

Hi Edgar,

In my opinion (as a psych professor and former career services professional), the biggest challenge for psych undergrads, is figuring out what to do with their degree (what career to pursue, attend grad school, etc.).

Psychology is an extremely broad field which be applied to literally everything (the workplace, personal finances, etc.). Consider the fact that in 2017 individuals with a bachelors degree in psych were employed in 92 different occupation categories.

Here's a great resource to get you thinking about your potential career path - Preparing to use your bachelor's degree in psychology.

Best,

Clemente
