Rachel’s Answer
There are many careers that work with architects or are similar to architects. To name a few:
Construction Managers
Project Managers
Engineering (Structural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical)
Interior Designers
General Contractors
An architect is the 'jack of all trades' and knows a little about a lot of things. They create the architectural drawings that are used to construct the actual building. They also work hand in and with other disciplines (structural, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and after those disciplines create their own drawings, they are sent to the architect to include in their package. The architect must help to coordinate to ensure all these inputs work in harmony.

Facility managers make sure office space is functional for those Cast working in that building. It does not simply require having an architectural plan, but an understanding of what each role requires to be successful. That can include office furniture, computer equipment and ergonomic feasibility. Conversely a Facility Manager at a park or resort must not only consider office space but functionality and visual appearance of Guest rooms, common areas, areas of entertainment and restaurants.
Safety Engineers must consider the wellbeing of both Guests and Cast alike. They are deeply involved in every architectural aspect of our theme parks and resorts. Safety is the number one Key for Walt Disney World, and therefore safety is incorporated in every plan initiated at Walt Disney World
Landscape Architects are also integral to Walt Disney World. Landscape helps as visual barriers, create walkways and simply perfects the visual image a particular attraction or resort.
Koen this is just the tip of jobs similar to an Architect, but I hope this gives you an idea of just how many jobs there are out there that have similarities or require partnership with an architectural degree.

Hi Koen. I used to have part ownership in a home building company. We hired architects to be sure, but there are a couple of specialties that are similar, I'm talking about someone who does detailed kitchen design. Not just the cabinets and styles, but how a new kitchen might be designed to function better. The architectural plans will just show 'kitchen'. Someone needs to thoughtfully fill that kitchen with the right stuff. I believe there are some kitchen design schools or credential programs you might look for. Bathroom design is another similar one. Landscape design, or urban planning too for that matter. Lots of urban planning (what cities will look like) is archeticgural in nature.
Lots of options Koen. Good luck.
