I worked in Florida for approximately 15 years and often with heavy equipment operators.  You'll need a license to prove you know how to operate the equipment safely.  Go to Myflorida.com for additional info on licensing.  To do the actual maintenance work probably requires you to go to trade school (aka technical training school).  However, some smaller companies may be willing to teach you on-the-job.  To find out what company's want, search for job postings using the key words of the job title you want.  Then read the job requirements.  That will tell you if they REQUIRE a license or certification or if it is just PREFERRED.  Good luck
