How does PIMCO's university recruiting work?

I know a lof of companies recruit for entry level roles right out of college but I don't know any of the specifics. How often do you recruit college students and from what schools do you recruit from? #college #finance #financial-services #investment-management #investing #recruiting #university-recruiting

Timothy’s Answer

Hi Chris,

My name is Tim and I joined PIMCO full-time last August as part of the undergraduate campus recruiting program. I first joined PIMCO as a summer intern in 2014 in the Portfolio Management division, and then received and signed a full-time offer at the end of the internship. This reflects PIMCO's primary undergraduate recruiting process: PIMCO typically first hires students for junior year internships, and then extends full time offers to students who have demonstrated they can perform in a full-time role. PIMCO recruits from many universities, but the necessary requirements for applicants are to have a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale (EMEA minimum 2:1) at an accredited college or university, and to be fluent in English. Hope this answers your question!

John’s Answer

I can't speak directly about PIMCO, but I can discuss how it is to be recruited by a company during college. This is one of the best ways to find a job for after college. These recruiters are on campus to hire students just like you, it can be a scary prospect, but they want to hire people who can be calm under pressure, so try to be relaxed. My strategy was to make myself seen anytime they were on campus. As a side effect, this also helped me get more comfortable talking to the recruiters. On my nearly weekly visits, I would always come in with at least one question, so they knew I was interested. I ended up receiving offers from all of the companies I was actively trying to be recruited by. Good luck with your job hunt.

John recommends the following next steps:

Talk to recruiters on campus for the first time
Go again next week!
Eventually.... get hired!
