Cody’s Answer

No, you do not need to go to college to be a coach. It definitely helps, however; if you want to be a high school coach you will need to at least get your Bachelors degree.

Thank you comment icon No generally you do not. Sometimes at the Middle Highschool level you are also a teacher and that would mean you may need school. Gail Griffey

To be a collegiate coach, yes. Some college coaching positions even require a Master's degree.

S’s Answer

A College degree helps build your thinking and analytical abilities. While not exactly a requirement for becoming a sports team Coach, it would certainly help. Coaches (incl. sports coaches) win by helping their players/teams win. And that not only needs expertise and some skill in the given activity/sport - but also being able to navigate systems/leagues, analyze abilities, provide intelligent inputs, motivate, observe development and put resources in right positions. This is where having a college degree helps.
