Subbaiah’s Answer

A hospitality management degree will lead you to a career in Food and Beverage Service, Accommodation Operations, Travel & Tourism and Front Office. But, if you really want to become a chef, then ideally you should take up Professional Food Production courses such as culinary courses & Culinary Arts. Once you finish the course, you join as an intern, learn everything and then be a chef that you wished for.

Lettesha’s Answer

The best way to become a chef is do your resource to make sure that becoming a chef is what you really want to do. Look into places that offer culinary classes for free. I did my culinary class at the RI Foodbank which is a 14 week program and did job training and offered my servesafe certificate. Also try to make that you have made short term goals before you jump into something that your not ready for. It usually takes only two years to complete and is offered by a variety of institutions, such as community colleges and culinary schools. During the two years of education, students should expect to gain an extensive array of culinary skills and knowledge that will provide the foundation for a career as a chef

Lettesha recommends the following next steps:

Find a job working in a restaurant kitchen. Knowing how the kitchen and restaurant works is vitally important to becoming a chef. ...
Get a high school diploma or GED. ...
Go to culinary school. .
Obtain practical work experience. ...
Certification.

Treasa’s Answer

After your education, you need to work as an intern for apprenticeship. After joining the food & restaurant industry, you have to work your way up the career ladder – Commi Chefs (Commi 3, Commi 2, Commi 1) – also known as Assistant Chef or Cookou will then move on to become a junior and then senior. Then comes the position of the Chef. A Sous Chef is the kitchen in-charge. The highest title one can get is that of Chief Chef, Executive Chef or Head Chef. It’s all about rising through the ranks. and start your apprenticeship under a good chef. But, more often than not, a good chef always prefers a degree or diploma holder as an intern.

Kristoffer’s Answer

Ok so here’s the deal. If you can go to culinary school try the Culinary Institute of America. Reason being is that it will give you the connections needed I to the real work to get a job. You don’t necessarily need the education because you will learn more outside of school but that school teaches you how to be respectful in the kitchen as well as a handful of things needed prior. Above all it has a great alumni following and will get doors open for you much faster.
