James’s Answer

There are various degree programs that help with achieving this goal. There is a major that isn't too common, but focuses primarily on what you are seeking. It's called Criminology. This enables you to focus on the psychology behind crime, rather than a more broad coverage of the subject that you would get in a degree like criminal justice. I would look for a school with this major.

James recommends the following next steps:

Find a university that offers Criminology.

Kimberly’s Answer

Once you've completed your degree (preferably in psychology, biology, human behavior or criminal justice field) you would need to get your foot in the door at an agency that offers this position. You would not be hired right out of college because a profiler needs extensive experience in their field and then generally transitions into the position of a profiler after years of training and related field work. Don't get discouraged though, it is possible. You just need to have realistic expectations and know that it isn't a position that one attains at a young age or right after college. Good luck

Kimberly recommends the following next steps:

Select a college that specializes in Forensic Psychology, like John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NY, NY.
