You may also want to find a copy of a book called What Color is Your Parachute for Teens. It's a great resource to discover your passions and where you might be able to apply them as a career.

Alexandra’s Answer

A lot of thought goes into what motivates you to pursue a career. Of course, as many people will tell you, feeling passionate about your work helps with motivation. However, what also matters is what you are good at. I would start by making a list of your strengths and weaknesses and think about what type of career path/profession those strengths make you suitable for. You can also try to come up with a plan on how to work on your weaknesses, but the questions you should be asking yourself are: What do I do really well? Of the things I do really well, what do I find more interesting and exciting? That will help down narrow down some choices.

Bryant’s Answer

Work for something that you are passionate for not so much for money or a role you know you will not like. As a student look at volunteering, interviewing professionals and researching as it gives more information. Look at 2-3 career areas that you would want to be in and that this should help out

Rachael’s Answer

Hi Jose,

I encourage you to find your own version of the answer to this question. I can tell you I chose a career which suited my skills and the way in which I enjoyed working. I choose to work toward my future and am in a career with the longevity to achieve this. I also remember to remain in the present and take time off of work to enjoy where I am now.

Best of luck.

Simeon’s Answer

I think it's strange that people are not supposed to be motivated by improving your resume or pulling a good wage. There are valid motivations for working beyond being passionate about the work itself. The only person who can tell you if your work motivation is working for you is you. If you find it disheartening and discouraging to be at work, think about what your options are, but don't feel bad if your job doesn't get you excited.
