GABRIEL’s Answer

Hi- it is a very honorable profession that immediately makes you part of a large, close-knit, extended family. It allows you to make meaningful contributions to society while earning a good salary. The profession also offers good benefits including retirement plans. If the dangers of street policing are a concern, I would look at jobs in the federal system or in positions that do not require that type of work. Law enforcement/criminal justice is broad enough to offer all types of job opportunities, including analyst positions.

Michelle’s Answer

Hi Joshua - I have relatives in Law Enforcement and they have good pension plans.  They received a lot of training.  This career can take you in many directions such as;  patrol, detectives, evidence tech, traffic reconstruction, juvenile investigations, crime prevention, supervisory, and several administrative positions.  The likelihood of getting laid off is almost zero.  It can be independent work where you make a lot of your own decisions.  Most like the variety that each day brings, however it also depends on how you handle dangerous situations.  A career in Law Enforcement usually comes with shift work and weekend rotations.  Many like this because they can save on daycare costs.  Salaries vary by location.  Hope this helps!
