How do you help a family who can't afford a funeral?

In addition to Paula's answer, I have seen some individuals do a "Go Fund Me Page" and ask for donations, which I believe was on FaceBook. I would see if there was any assistance with the church or with any other organizations that may be out there in this type of situation.

If you’re a surviving spouse or child of someone who qualified for Social Security benefits, you’ll get a death benefit of $255 to help pay for funeral costs. If you can’t afford any burial costs, you can sign a release form at your county coroner’s office. This releases the body to the county or state for cremation or burial.
