Hi Brittany,
Thanks for asking that great question. I have been a cosmetologist for 22yrs and the best thing about the job is that you can actually change someone's life. To give you a breakdown what is entailed is you would have classroom training and also hands on training. All states provide you training in Aesthetics and Nails and Hair. But you also learn the science behind the structure of hair. Also the chemistry of the products that are used on the hair and what it can do. What to do to counter act any challenges with hair as well. I would recommend that you sit down with the admissions office of the school of your choice they will break down your curriculum so you know what to expect. The cosmetology career is a rewarding one. You can use your license to do make up nails aesthetics and hair. You can also work in the spa industry or even on cruise ships. Take you time in choosing the right school. But once you graduate you can soar and do so many things within the industry.

The most fun thing about being a cosmetologist is making connections with people and making them feel great about themselves!
I’ve been doing hair for almost 20 years and sometimes I wonder if I’d like to move on to something else. When I really start to ponder a new career I’m reminded of how much fun my job is. My clients are like close friends and family. We know each other so well. The hours are flexible and you get to express your personal sense of style at work.
Working with a group of creative people is so inspiring. You know you’ll always have that in common with your coworkers.
There are a lot of boring days in the beginning when you’re working on building a client base. Some days you might have one, two or no clients. It can feel discouraging but know that being a busy stylist every day takes time.
It’s really important to keep up your training, find a salon that supports your taking classes every year outside or inside the salon. 20 years in I STILL love to take basic fundamentals of cutting classes to refresh my skills and inspire me!
I’m really excited for you! Work hard and you’ll be rewarded with long time clients who will love you like family.
