Melanie’s Answer

In Clinical Psychology, it is important to understand different behaviors and the way others think. As clinical is a field that focuses research and understanding, you must be inquisitive, communicative, passionate about learning, personable, and knowledgeable about research and the programming that comes with it. R is a common programming language used in psychological research, so learning that would be useful as well as having experience in working with people. Clinical Psychology degrees often require you to do a number of hours of in-person work to obtain the degree to practice, so the more practice you get the stronger a psychologist will be.

Dr. Rodney E.’s Answer

Do be successful in clinical psychology you need to be inquisitive about the "why of human behavior". You must be observant, detail oriented, enjoy research, interacting with others, and gaining new knowledge as new information becomes available. You should enjoy team work and spending hours reading and writing. My introduction and interest into the field started while working with emotionally challenged adolescents. I then progressed to working as a member of an interdisciplinary clinical team in a rehabilitation hospital alongside psychiatrist, neuropsychologist, behavioral psychologists, and social workers. I was able to hone my skills while working on my graduate degree.
