Yes India,
The profession of law can be time-consuming - chiefly, a lot of reading and writing. However, the amount of time you spend depends on where you work and your job position. In my opinion, partners in firms are more relaxed and enjoy more personal time because they delegate the heavy tasks to Associates or Junior Counsels. If you plan to make partner in firm, get ready to sacrifice your free time for at least 2 years. Also, solo practitioners have less free time. Solos tend handle both the legal and administrative duties of a firm; so, they end up taking their work home and preparing for trials/cases on weekends. I intentionally carve out a free time for myself because I have a family and it keeps me mentally strong. It is up to you.

Hi India - great question. Practicing law definitely can be an important part of a 'portfolio life' with other vital priorities like a spouse or partner, family, hobbies, travel, volunteer work, etc. The law is a great career because there are many different practice areas and practice settings (e.g., government, in-house, law firm, non-profits and more). You can develop a career plan that fits your lifestyle as your life evolves. But no matter what practice area and practice setting you choose, you will have to set and maintain your priorities, and you may need to make trade-offs at times. But by working with your colleagues, your clients, and the other important people in your life, it's definitely possible to have a fulfilling legal career in a diverse, exciting life. Good luck!
