While things may differ depending on what studios you work in, I think there are varying rates of pay in the animation industry. It can depend on what position you are doing in the studio itself as well. There are more than just "animators" in a studio, there are character and prop designers, background designers and storyboard artists - who may have also gone to animation school but these things ended up being their strengths. If you work in 2D animation, there are rough animators and clean up animators etc. 3D animation studios have other positions as well - texture artists etc. There is no fixed hourly/weekly salary -- it will depend on the role and the studio.
