Hello Lorissa!
I am originally from El Paso, Texas! It depends what you want to do in sports medicine that will make up your day. For example, sports performance (like strength and conditioning) that helps athletes prevent injury and prepares them in terms of conditioning for their in-season competition. Another example is athletic training or physical therapy. Caring for athletes on and off the field of play (injury rehab). Don’t forget specializing in orthopedics; which is more invasive in nature and requires medical school. Sports medicine can also involve biomechanics, research, sport psychology like mental conditioning, coaching, nutrition and other forms of medicine. Sports Medicine is broad. I hope this helps!

If your child sustains an injury during exercise, sports participation, or any type of physical activity, you may be advised to see a sports medicine doctor for treatment.
Hi Sudarshan, your response does not address the student's question. Lorissa wants to know what does someone in the sports medical field does. Any insight you can provide would be helpful

Rachel’s Answer
My husband is an orthopedic surgeon and works closely with sports medicine doctors. While the orthopedic surgeons operate on bone and joint injuries, the sports medicine doctors diagnose sports-related injuries and help to develop a treatment plan. Sports med doctors may provide recommendations for PT, conditioning, or referral to a surgeon.
