First I would recommend researching each branch. After you know a little bit about each, I would starting thinking about what one you want to join. Next I would try to come up with a few choices of which jobs you want to do in that branch. After that it is pretty simple, walk into your local recruiting office for the branch you've decided on, talk to them about what job you are looking to get into.
You will have to take the ASVAB, which is the placement test, its how each branch decides on what jobs you qualify for. A recruiter will set you up with the test and even have practice ones for you to take if you want. As long as your scoring matches up with the job you want to pursue, they will do all the paperwork for you, and all you have to really worry about is showing up when they tell you to.
Then you will go to bootcamp or basic training and once that is complete you are off to your schooling for what ever trade you decided in.
