Hi Gokul,

It really depends on what you want to do. That's the good thing about being an attorney as you can do a variety of things if you want. You can be a transactional attorney where you help companies sign contracts and buy things. You can be a litigation attorney where you take cases to trials, mediations, and arbitrations. You can be a company/in-house attorney where you can do litigation, transactional work, both, or many other things depending on what the company wants you to do. I have been a company attorney so I did a variety of things. You can even be a non-profit attorney where you help people who are less fortunate or support non-profit organizations like breast cancer foundations.

Have you thought about what you would like to do or what you are interested in doing?

There are so many different types of a law that lawyers can practice, so your day-to-day tasks will depend largely on what type of lawyer you choose to be. If you are a corporate lawyer, you will spend a lot of time reviewing and drafting contracts. If you are a trial lawyer, you will spend a lot of time researching and drafting court documents. If you work for a larger law firm or larger company, you will probably be more specialized and practice one type of law. If you work for a small firm or small company, you will likely have broader responsibilities and be responsible for more than one area of the law. However, no matter what type of lawyer you are, you will use critical thinking and writing skills on a regular basis, and be prepared to interact and work well with your clients.
