What does the average day in the life of a social worker consist of?

A day for a school social worker would likely consist of holding a caseload of students for the entire school(s), many school social workers split their time working for more than one school in their county. A school social worker typically meets with the students on their caseload, fulfills assessments, and files related paperwork. Often, school social workers are also expected to be involved in truancy cases and can be involved in child protective cases as well.
To become a school social worker in most states, you do have to choose this specialty while you are in school and obtain your MSW and clinical social work licensure afterwards.

When working in a school with students, a typical day includes managing a caseload of kids who are designated counseling on their IEP. This includes weekly sessions, in-class check ins, and family outreach. Depending on the school, they may ask for additional insight including giving presentations or helping build mental health programs. School social work also includes crisis de-escalation, case notes and attending meetings for students.

There are two tracks to take- counseling and social work. If you become a social worker, there is an extra training you can take during school that makes you qualified.

It tends to be filled with loads of paper work stubborn aggravated people and children who don’t want to be where they are .
