Data is critical for almost all decisions. Historical data (what is true from the past), market data (broadly and for comparative purposes), adjacent data (what other adjacencies exist related to the topic and would any data related to that perhaps help you with your decision. Data can be hard data (facts) - and soft data (anecdotes and knowledge) but be sure to watch for any bias inherent in the latter.

Data is essential in making most of even the most simple decisions in life. May it be purchasing a small item to a advising a large investment company on which assets to buy that will yield the best returns. Data allows you to the ability to make informed decisions. Whatever the topic could be about.
