Judith’s Answer

Consumer science offersl a great deal of chemistry, anatomy and physiology as well as nutrition. I believe that some of this could apply toward midwifery, but you would need to complete other aspects in this new discipline. Check with the school which you are applying and have them evaluate your transcripts so that you can change disciplines.

Judith recommends the following next steps:

Apply to new school, send official transcripts to them.
Shadow someone you know in midwifery to see if it is really a profession you would find fulfilling.
Take a few LVN classes so that you could be more prepared for birthing emergencies.

Cynthia’s Answer

You are in one country and I'm in another. Here in the USA there is very specific training for be coming a midwife...and it is different in each of the 50 states. Not sure about Ghana. In each situation you need to get the official requirements to become a midwife. In most places being a nurse will also be a good place to begin. IN the USA there are different levels of training and certification for nursing. Registered Nurse (RN) is often part of a college degree (Bachelors or Masters Degree). LVN - Liscences Vocational Nurse. CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant (not independent). And most common for working in hospital OB/GYN units is NP or LNP (Liscensed Nurse Practicioner) and advanced degree like a Masters Degree.
