Cleve D.’s Answer

The majority of undergraduate psychology programs at most universities are accredited by a higher learning agency which means the core classes/learning will be the same no matter where you go to school. I would say graduate school is where you want to be very selective about the school you want to attend based on the field of psychology (clinical, I/O, school, forensic, etc.) you want to study.

Cleve D. recommends the following next steps:

I would suggest doing some research on your top 5 schools and read about their psychology schools. Once you have done that reach out to someone at the school to see about setting up a time to meet with someone from the department. Usually they are more than happy to meet with a prospective student. Good Luck!

Dr. Ray’s Answer

Dear Ashley,

I agree with Cleve that there are many good undergraduate psychology programs. I strongly recommend you pick a university that is accredited, which fortunately is most of them. Usually a school with a graduate program in psychology will have a good undergraduate program as well. The American Psychological Association maintains a list of accredited programs which is available on their web site www.apa.org. The University of California system has a number of campuses with excellent programs.

I wish you the best in your career pursuits.

Ray Finn, Ph.D.

Dr. Ray recommends the following next steps:

I suggest looking at the web sites of schools you are interested in, and e mailing the departments. As Cleve stated most departments are very open and willing to talk to interested students.
