Dear Prabhavathi R.:
An IAS officer is considered civil servant and is responsible for the law and order. Some job duties are to handle daily affairs of the government. Depending on your actual position will determine what your job duties and protocols will be as well as to who you will be reporting too. In order to completely answer your question really depends on whether or not you will be at the local, or national level.
I have a background in Banking/Finance, but have switched over to Law Enforcement working with the Police Department and I have found that very personally rewarding. I wish you all the best in finding your personal happiness with your job.!
Kindest Regards,
Melida Alaniz
