Balancing family life and work life is not easy. It is good to have a job and boss that is flexible. Making a To Do List for both family life and work life helps. Especially if you prioritize it. I have one calendar that I use for both family and work life. Try to schedule doctor appointments and stuff like that before the day starts or towards the end.
Always plan ahead. I remember having to cook dinner at 11 in the morning because it was the only opening I had.
Be organized.

triage that issue/project outside of weekly standing meetings. This process is more commonly known as managing by exception. If no resolution can be reached or we need leadership assistance to bridge an impasse, next steps are to escalate the project and update it's current status.

Flexibility is a "2 way" concept. Sometimes I have to work late in the night for a meeting with colleagues in Asia Pacific , but others I may need to take a few hours in the day off to manage some personal things for my family. Some companies are more flexible with this than others.
To meet your personal needs, you need to identify a company that deals well with this environment - and there are many of them at the moment! With the digital world, there is no limits for you to work from anywhere at anytime!
But it is important that you focus on your objectives and commitments. It is important that the company can trust that can count on you to deliver what you are supposed to, no matter how.
