A software engineer is someone who writes computer programs. All of the Apps that run on your phone and on your computer was developed or created by a team of software engineers. Software engineers are also called programmers or software developers.

It also takes into account the overall business problem to design an effective and usable software solution. This requires knowledge of advanced mathematics, problem-solving skills, and deep programming knowledge to conceptualize and execute a software program.
