What major should I study in college?
My name is Wyatt and I'm a Junior at North Branch High School. I play many sports such as Football, Basketball, and Powerlifting. I enjoy working out and staying fit. I find many interests in biology and science. I also think a job in law enforcement might be fun for me. I am looking for a job that I actually like. I am not interested in having a job that pays well yet bores me. #biology#animals#college #sports #trainer#fit

Hi Wyatt,
When choosing a major, it is important to take into consideration all of the different career paths that are available for that choice. Most colleges don't require you to declare a major until your junior year, which gives you a great opportunity to take different electives and get a taste for all the different fields there may be!
Since you already have an interest in biology or other sciences, and you appear to be passionate about health and staying active, this is a great place to start to explore the different options. For example, during your first few semesters of college you can take electives related to these interests to see what you are most drawn too! Also, when taking electives that relate to things you are interested in, you can build relationships with your professors and even get their insight on different career paths in those specific field as well.
I would also recommend researching different career paths for Biology and different sciences on the internet! (That is how I narrowed down my career path) Doing a quick google search you can find a ton of information on what the different career paths are available for different majors. For example, check out this link I came across; it lists out all of the different careers that a person can take depending on what major/degree they complete.
https://www.learnhowtobecome.org/science-technology-careers/biology/
Overall, I would research and read up on all the different options that you can find, and even if you can't pinpoint what career path you do want to take, it can definitely help you narrow down which paths you would not be interested in!
Hope this helps!

Hi Wyatt! Thinking about majors can definitely be overwhelming. I think one of the best things to do it talk to people in the career fields you might be interested in learning more about. By having conversations with those people, you can learn what they majored in and talk to them how they navigated that process.
The other thing I would suggest is during your freshmen year of college, try courses that are required courses but are in different fields. You might confirm your interest in the sciences or in another field. Definitely use career services as early as a freshmen to help you find opportunities to intern so you can see if you are heading down the right path for you major and career.
