I feel that with any position, you never stop learning. I recommend attending any seminar related to your field and read any material in your field. As a cosmetologist, you need to do a lot of practicing and keep up with the latest trends. People don't think about it, but good customer service and good work is what brings you most of your clients. Bad reviews do the most damage to a business.

In the cosmetology field it is important to build up your brand and work on gaining clientele. It's going to be the customers that will keep you in business and the more customers that you have the more profit you will make. When I finished my program I found a salon that had an educational program as well. For me it was called Landis but the program was through Aveda. Once you apply for the program you work in the salon with instructors and they work on things like your technique and perfecting your skill. While you are working there you take clients and build up your clientele. As you move through the different levels you are still building customers and you are furthering your education.
There is also the option to be an apprentice for someone. You can find a salon to apprentice under another beautician and you would work with them doing their shampoos and other things. This would get you in the salon and you would be meeting people and working in your field and getting more education by observing. One of the hardest things is gaining your confidence and surrounding yourself with people who are good in your industry can help you with that.
