I am not an expert on this. However, my cousin is a park ranger. His career path was interesting, but not what he originally intended. The two pieces of his career that got him to be part of the dnr was being a science teacher and police officer. It was not necessarily the time he was in those professions, it was the knowledge he gained. The combination of these allowed him to be a good fit for being a park ranger. Just a note, that was not his original intent when he first started his journey

Ethan, Michigan has wonderful natural resources and the Michigan DNR is one of the better agencies in the country offering competitive wages. There are a variety of jobs in the DNR, but most people usually think of the Science or the Law Enforcement routes. Both are good options but often involve different education. Michigan State University has a excellent Fisheries and Wildlife management program , Zoology, biology, etc.. that would provide a good path for the sciences. A criminal justice degree may be a good path toward law enforcement.
Other Schools may offer the same types of degrees, so do you homework. Don't rule out the Federal Government opportunities in the National Park Service, Department of Agriculture, or even Forestry. Every State in the union also have agencies that have similar jobs. Be careful though, some States have a much higher pay scale than others.
