Jon( Ponytail)’s Answer

There are several Pipe welding tests. My first was American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104. It is done in a 6-G position. A 6" Schedule 40 Coupon is used. Pipe is set at 45°. 6010 root, 7018 fill and a 2-3 pass cap. The Coupons are 1/16"-1/8" apart for a gap. The first, 1/8"-6010,(Root, or Bead) pass weld enters the pipe. After grinding, the second pass is done with 3/32" 7018. Using a WIRE WHEEL ONLY, clean the slag. Only grind if a problem is found. The third pass, or cap, may be 2 or 3 stacked welds. Low to high. Clean using ONLY A WIRE WHEEL.
