Hi Daniel,
It is great that you're thinking about a career that helps businesses run a safe and healthy work environments!
I work as a Finance Analyst for an airline and I communicate with the Facilities Maintenance staff on the regular basis. The basics of the facilities maintenance work are the same for every job market, however there are specific things that a facility maintenance staff would do for the airlines.
Basic Facilities Maintenance work - installation and maintenance of essential equipment and devices that are part of the buildings like water, gas and electrical meters and pipes as an example; repair of the building structure and oversight of renovations/improvement including carpentry, HVAC, lighting, flooring, windows, others.
Facilities Maintenance work specific for an airline - all the above including off hours repair work that don't cause disruption of flight activities. The facilities maintenance night hawk work is common for the airlines. The facilities maintenance staff will have specialized staff in different trades, like carpentry, pluming, siding, electrical, among other trades that support projects for building improvement.
For an example , at this moment airlines are asking their facilities maintenance to install acrylic panels to keep their customer service personnel at the gates and the check-in counters safe, promoting social distancing due to COVID-19.
All the best!
