Hi Ayline.

They are ALWAYS hiring here in Southern California! That being said, because of the high turnover rate in law enforcement, just about everyone is hiring. Just depends on what you want in a Department. I say bigger is better. More opportunity for advancement and to work specialized details. Most Departments in So. Cal. do not require any kind of higher education degree, but it always looks good on a resume and definitely will help you promote once you get your foot in the door. Also remember you MUST start as a patrol officer and usually after a few years, can begin testing for Detective. I myself spent 18 of my 30 plus years in the detective bureau working homicide. Great detail if you can get in! If you want to stay close to home, El Paso Police Department is a very good Department with an excellent reputation.

If you are still in school, focus on your writing skills. Grammar is a major cause of recruit wash outs! Find a good Creative Writing course and practice, practice, practice!

I hope this helps. We can always use another warrior on the 'Thin Blue Line!'
