Hi,
In answer to your question, automotive technician/mechanic is a very broad field as there are many different parts of a car to work on and since there are a lot of cars in the USA, there are a lot of opportunities to work. So yes, it would be a good career to get into. Training to be a mechanic can be in either a Technical High School, a 2-year college program for auto technicians or maybe the simplest, but longest way to become a mechanic is "on the job training". But I would not recommend this method due to the complexity of the newer cars. Concerning salary, please refer to the following: https://www.salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/automotive-mechanic-i-salary.
I would also suggest that in the future, Google Auto Mechanic , there is a wealth of information available on the Internet.
Good Luck,
