ilya,
Skills and knowledge needed for plant preservation would probably include the following:
- A thorough understanding of plant biology, physiology, structure, genetics, ecology, distribution, and classification. (Botany)
- You need to understand how to control the climate the plants are in, and be able to adapt the climate for the desired level of growth.
- If the species of plants you are preserving are endangered, it helps to know the applicable laws, and the grants which may be available to you in order to help run your operation.
- A basic understanding of business is most likely needed if you are going to be running a for profit, not-for-profit, or a government maintained botanically centered entity.

Hi Ilya!
I’m unsure exactly the skills you’ll need for that, however, I went to College for Landscape Architecture. Two of the courses were Horticulture & Biology where they taught us the scientific names of the different plants including which parts of the US they would grow best (which climates, Zones, etc.) so I highly recommend you look into those topics...hope this helps!
