Have you thought about furniture design? There's a lot of mechanical thinking involved in that. And package design can be a complicated engineering feat of its own. Those might be a little off to the side of art, but I thought they were worth the suggestion.

Many college BS degree educational programs for Interior Design include courses covering sustainable interior design, sustainable design materials, and sustainable design systems.

An overview of some principles of sustainable interior design can be found on this website; https://medium.com/@ECONYL/5-principles-of-sustainable-interior-design-b390503a5176

You will find more information by searching Wikipedia for :sustainable interior design” to yield these results; https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=sustainable%20interior%20design&title=Special%3ASearch&fulltext=1&ns0=1

If you're a podcast listener, look at the vast resources from TED. You're on to something that there is absolutely an interaction between Design (all kinds, not just interior) and Technology; and also the ways great Design and Technology can shape human and even animal behaviors and culture.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.

Several examples of Technology and Design can be seen in our everyday lives - two examples - stores position entrances and aisles to guide where they want traffic to flow, or to support natural patterns; Temple Grandin revolutionized a whole industry - and reshaped how cattle are moved and handled with technology and design recommendations.

The blurring of lines between classical disciplines (Engineering vs. Interior Design) is increasing, and with positive benefits. Good to see you looking forward about this, enjoy!
