Congratulations on scoring well in your X board exams. I am glad to see that students like you are expressing your interest into fields not very sought after in India. I think every parent wants the best for their children. It may just be that they may not be familiar with prospects for a field like Psychology. I think you should do your ground work to convince your parents that a career in Psychology is possible. Depends on what you are looking to do - become a psychologist, or use psychology in areas like HR, IT (Cognitive psychology). In the second case your primary area may be a core field, and you use psychology to support/solve problems in that area. Whatever the case, I think you should also put effort in educating and convincing your parents, to get their support throughout your career. Good luck.

On a personal front, after spending 25 years in the IT industry - I am going to do a Psychology degree part time to help build better software products that is driven by a deeper understanding of customer behaviors when using computers/software (cognitive psychology).

Congratulations on scoring well in your Class X board exams. Psychology is an interesting field of study however your parents might be concerned because in India we do not have a lot of job opportunities for students who have taken up psychology on an average unless you do post-graduation establishing your career in psychology might be difficult that might be one of the reasons why your parents are not approving of you taking up psychology. However if you have decided that you still want to pursue a career in psychology and that is your passion there are options where you could teach psychology or you could become a psychologist .
It’s best you discuss with your parents and then take a final decision since you would need their support .

I have mentioned a link please go through it since it gives you detailed information regarding the various branches of psychology and career options in psychology :
