Another thing to consider or look at is the maker movement... people who enjoy building things themselves. There are plenty of videos on YouTube where people have taught themselves to weld to expand what they can build themselves.

If you are asking where the most welding jobs in the US are located, then the best answer I can give is anywhere there is manufacturing of metal products, and construction. Which then makes weldings jobs available all over the US.
And you shouldn't focus on where there is the most but rather you should focus on what kind of place you would like to live. Urban, rural, mountainous, desert, tropical, humid, hot, snowy. These are important things to consider when looking for job placement outside of where you are living now.
To have a higher chance of getting hired, consider more rural areas of the country or less densely populated cities.
