Music is in the mind. It is a common knowledge that babies in the womb respond to music. So it depend on the level of interest. Hence, music instruments can be introduced to all ages to learn considering the varying ages.

Hey!
Music is timeless. when teaching music, age doesn't matter, it's the discipline the comes with wanting to learn an instrument and being prepared to face obstacles along the way. When someone is passionate about music, they will surely do anything to achieve their goal.

Age is less relevant, but level of the individual is what you really should want to know. Do you want to teach beginners? Are you only wanting to work with aficionados?
Of course if you do not like kids, etc. then do not teach kids.

Hi... I gave drum lessons many years ago. I found everyone is different in their ability to understand certain aspects of any instrument. Being able to learn how to read drum music for example. If the student understands then that's the starting point. Although introducing to music at a young age is a great idea!!! But... when I started playing drums over 40 years ago I was self taught and didn't have formal training until I was 21. So... if one is drawn towards playing I say go for it at any age!

Hi Evan,
Yes. Teaching music should be for all ages. There are methods and programs that teach music to babies and young children (Music Garten, Sukuzi) and their parents. There are the elementary, middle, high school and college programs that teach music. Beyond that there are community music groups that have musicians (choral and instrumental) who are interested in taking lessons. When I was studying harp (as an adult), I asked my music teacher what percentage of her piano and harp students were adults. She said 25%.

Yes. I have found that if there is an interest, no matter the age, people get a great deal out of taking up music, be it instrumental or choral. It allows the student to learn something new and opens up a new world.

Yes, I believe that you can teach music to children and adults of any age. That being said, I began taking piano at age 5 and harp at age 8. My harp teacher would not begin teaching any students who had not already taken piano for 3 years. She believed that some instruments were more complex and required a baseline knowledge of music prior to learning them.
