Well to start off when working in the design world it’s important to find your niche. Find the area of design that you enjoy most. When speaking of fashion design or graphic design a lot of the time these two can go hand in hand, especially if you would design patterns for future fabrics. It’s always important to have a portfolio so any work you do create always keep and add it to your archive!

Hi John, this is a great question.
If you are looking to get into the design world, what type of design are you looking for? Are you looking for art, landscape, architecture, clothing, photography, or what other medium you are looking to use. Design is quite a big spectrum so you would need to know your medium before you got started. Once you figure that out, there are always ways to get your foot in the door by freelancing. There are a lot of places out there that will help aspiring designers and artists to get their foot in the door. The pay may not be as much as some others but it gets you out there and gets your work out which will help you land bigger jobs. Look in your area to see if there may be newspapers or local publications who are looking for content, you may be able to start there and at least start a portfolio of published works.
Hope this helps.

So many millennials have the confidence to begin a start up. You could be one. It may take time to discern the product you are most passionate about. You could write a pros and cons list and go through that process. Design a product which makes you happy in your life. It could be something which has purpose, leaves a small footprint and helps others. You could then draw and make up prototypes of your design.
I believe you personally have a design in mind. Have courage and take it to the next level. You may have to form a team with others to go into production, but take the time to choose people that have the same vision of your product that you do.
I believe that you are capable of designing a product which could help humanity, that is marketable (with footwork) and that you are happy to go to work and develop every day.
While you are at it, make sketches of designs you wish to develop as your company develops. Keep learning and growing. Life is not stagnant, markets change. Develop ideas which will give you work in the future, anticipate your business model and make a plan.
