HI George, One the top welding schools in Michigan is Lincoln Technical Institute, which is near Norh Branch. Lincoln Technical Institute offers programs on 30 campuses in 15 states across the U.S. Lincoln schools around the country have made more than $15 million in scholarship funds available to qualified students.

Most places have technical colleges. If you plan to going to a 4 year as far as weld engineer Ferris State is one of 4 school that have that program. Most vocal school do transfer the credits.

Michigan is also a fairly large state, so I think geographic proximity should be a factor you are taking into account. Here is a list I found online of different welding schools available in the state- http://gowelding.org/welding-schools/michigan/. I would recommend seeing which ones are close to you (and therefore even possible to attend) and then doing some research- some programs might specialize in specific types of welding more then others, some might be cheaper, but starting with a list of schools that it is even geographically ideal to go to and then reaching out to learn more about their program is a good way to start.
