Michael’s Answer

That's a tough question to answer because technology changes so fast. Basic computer skills never go out of style. Make sure you are functional on all of the basic operating systems (pc, Mac, iOS, and Android). Be comfortable on a PC, tablet or mobile device. You don't need to be an IT tech but you should know at least the basics of both wireless and wired networking. Most business's use a lot of proprietary software so just be ready to be adaptable!

You are going to laugh but typing. I can’t tell you how many people I see who are under 25 who can’t type on normal keyboard but can text supper fast. Technology is always changing but big business is sometimes slow to adapt depending on field. How you deal with constant change and ability to grasp it makes big difference. While you are in school get as many certifications as you can if you want to go into technology field as it will give you a leg up on everyone else.

Fady’s Answer

If you think of technology as the "new" environment where humans will live and interact - then any skill that is available now can be mapped to a requirement in the cyber world. Personally I think that information security / protection of data on-line will be the highest demanded job in the future (this is equivalent to policemen now). This skill is transferable from a company to another - as they all have data to protect and they are all connected online.

Lakesha’s Answer

Lera,

I would add Good listening skills and Communication skills are needed in the workforce now. The world is Always changing and technology is always improving. One of the good benefits of being able to communicate effectively in this society is gaining more knowledge. Some people are definitely hands on learners and some have to read the material first. Being able to communicate with your management staff while you trying to learn the job shows desire.

There are a lot of individuals who Loves their job and enjoy helping others succeed. One great question to ask yourself Am I coachable? It’s something about Having a plan that have stuck with me throughout my life. I enjoy seeing my own progress. Hope this helps!

Carl’s Answer

Hi Lera. Understanding the link between the consumer need and technology is essential. I would say get in the habit of finding everyday problems and finding ways to solve them through technology. The earlier you get into this habit, the better. The person that does this the best will have a bright future.
